London Legion (2022 - 2025)
Beginning in 2022, I started my journey into University with the University campus of Esports (formerly College of Esports), hosting a brand new student led Esports Organisation: London Legion (Now Legion Esports UK).
For this org I worked with other students, being the founding team for the company, building solid groundwork for years to come. In my role as Social Media manager and Content Creator I led creative content, from photography, graphics and illustration, video editing, animation and production; following all of these through to their ultimate posting for the public and community.
Let me take you through the journey.
When first starting Legion, we as a team thought about broadcasts, using the technology of Infinity Set, we could bring green screen spaces to life. We began with limited space, a team of 15 people but a whole load of passion for what the brand could become.
It was around of the time of this first broadcast that I got fully into the social media side of the brand. Talking with CEO Professor Philip Wilson, he wanted to see the brand grow into the London Esports space, allowing me freedom using the brand guidelines that he had already worked on. With my experience in college doing social media he trusted my judgement and creative ability completely, an opportunity I will always be grateful for.
In order to direct the social media properly, I had to take time to make sure there was a foundation to start on. This involved making assets, photographs, animations, and videos where we could be seen as a company before posting (See below). This allowed us to make consistent posts, while having backups to use if necessary. Re-imagining the logo was a must, as the only render that had orignally been created was in a small scale, and not usable in other posts without losing direct quality. I used my knowledge of Adobe Illustrator to create a vector style of the logo, which could be scaled for infinite uses (See below). Alongside this I took photography of all of our players and my friend group at the time. (seen right)
Using our growing expertise in broadcast technology, the team thought of the idea of a podcast, calling it CoE's couch, using the foundations of our university and growing Legion brand. The original idea was to bring our team on individually, spending time with a host talking about their role and the comings and goings of setting up an Esports brand. This was continued for 2 seasons, with recurring guests, insutry icons and univeristy professionals. Overall we felt it to be a big success, taking good amounts of time to produce.
It was here that I began to use my video editing skills more often. I would break the podcasts down to its basic elements, watching the show through multiple times while cutting away small chucks, syncing audio up and adding overlayed graphics. Editing podcasts very quickly became my bread and butter.
From the podcasts we managed to generate a lot of good content which became spread across all of the Legion social media accounts. I was a good part of editing this during the production of our podcasts, as moments like these can generate more views in the long run of the podcast dates.
Give these two a watch. Nearly 2 years later and they still make me chuckle.
After a couple of seasons, we had new people in the company space, with a call for a rebrand from CoEs' couch. This became legion login: using the same format as previous, we gave the whole show a nice facelift, with a good part of creative design from myself as well as new members of the creatve team. We continued to run new guests of industry experts (on the left Dom Sacco, former journalist and editor of Esports News UK), as well as bringing multiple teams of our own creation, like that of LL Dionysus (right), our Rainbow Six Siege competitive team.
